Now we can calculate the (ecogeographic) representativeness of a germplasm collection
…and is not only possible, but very simply. The fundamental element to determine of the representativeness of a germplasm collection is having obtained previously an ELC map for the species to which the collection belongs, which is in turn very accessible through the ELC maps tool.
The ecogeographic representativeness analysis performed by Representa are more useful when the user provides passport data of the collection, information (location) on the sites where the species occurs coming from external sources. For this purpose, there is a form or table (called table of “external sources”).
When Representa works with data from external sources is not only able to show the part of the eco-geographical diversity that is preserved and the missing records, but can also indicate which are the priority sites to visit in future collecting activities.
